South East Alpaca Group Autumn Meeting
More than 30 Alpaca owners attended the Autumn Meeting of SEAG
which was held at The Ashdown Llama Park on Sunday 16th October
2011. We were delighted to welcome Dr Tim Potter MRCVS from the
WESTPOINT veterinary group, who talked about the care of aging
Alpacas particularly aimed at small breeders and owners of small
herds. He continued his talk after
a very good lunch, including information on worming, vitamin supplements,
parasites and biosecurity, then answered questions from the group.
The chairman and committee then ran through various topics of SEAG
business and general interest including the merger of Animal Health
and the VLA, current options for selling fleece, and biosecurity
measures.
The Chairman told members about the World Alpaca Conference on
10-12th April 2012 and also spoke about the Spring Show at Ardingly
on 6th and 7th May 2012 (for which volunteers are needed please).
Liz Butler advised that she was not leading the organising of the
show this year, but may be helping in the wings.
This meeting was generously sponsored by DEFRA through Livestock
Health South East. There are funds available to hold
further meetings on a variety of subjects, so members are asked
to send any thoughts and ideas for another meeting, to the committee.
A list of courses that have already been organised is on the
Livestock Health South East website: www.livestockhealthsoutheast.org.uk
The next meeting will be arranged for February next year,
by common consent.
